Meet your future colleagues!
Who are you and what is your main task?
My name is Jakob, I'm an IT Consultant and I've been with msg since fall 2018.
My main area of responsibility is software development. On the one hand, I help with the maintenance of existing systems and, on the other, I design and develop new features or applications. At the same time, my tasks sometimes also include coordination with the customer. In my development projects, I have already worked with many different technologies. For example, with voice assistance systems, Android apps or server-client applications with Spring Boot and Angular. The agile way of working is also part of it.
How did you come to msg?
I found my way to msg during my studies. Friends from my degree course recommended msg to me when I was looking for an internship. At the university's own company contact day, I was then able to convince myself once again during an interview with employees that I would have the chance to work on varied and exciting projects here. That's why I came to msg.
What is your favorite video game to play?
My favorite games are those that focus on an interesting story and where there is also something to explore. For example, the games in 'The Witcher' series or 'The Legend of Zelda' series. Most recently, “Ghost of Tsushima” was also one of my favorites.
What are your main tasks as a trainee at msg?
I am currently working on a small web application project. I am learning front-end web development with Angular through the right combination of practice and theory. What I particularly like is that I am allowed to work independently and am given a lot of freedom to design my topics. I meet with my trainers every day - either online or in the office - to discuss my goals and work steps for the day. They take a lot of time to answer my questions and are always there to support me both professionally and organizationally.
In addition to the specialist knowledge about programming, I also learn many other things. For example, I have the opportunity to give a presentation in our small group of trainees to improve my presentation skills. I am also always supported by the other apprentices and my trainers when it comes to school subjects.
What makes your team unique for you?
As I'm still relatively new to the company and my start coincided with the coronavirus crisis, I haven't yet been able to meet all my colleagues in my department in person. However, that didn't stop them from always having an open ear for me. I was warmly welcomed and was immediately fully integrated into the team. So, despite the circumstances, my start was so well organized that I was relieved of all my excitement on the very first day.
What personal items can be found on your desk?
There are no personal items on my desk at the office as yet. However, that doesn't apply to my drawer right next to my desk at home. My entire contingent of snacks and sweets is literally in there. The Haribo Smurfs in particular can almost always be found there.
