Digital transformation in the social economy: opportunities, challenges and future prospects

The social economy is a central component of the public sector and provides vital support services. At the same time, technological advances and limited resources - be it time, personnel or budget - are changing the framework conditions for these important services. Many organisations in the sector are already actively driving digitalisation, but the successful integration of digital innovations often places high demands on processes, technologies and structures.

msg supports players in the social economy in integrating digital innovations efficiently and in a future-proof manner. With customised solutions and strategic consulting, we help you to successfully shape digital change, optimise processes and create sustainable added value for people and organisations.

Strategic solutions for a sustainable organisation

Many organisations in the social economy are faced with the challenge of developing a clear strategy for digital change. There is often a lack of an overarching vision, a structured roadmap and concrete measures for implementing digital innovations. In addition, social economy organisations must adapt their structures to modern technologies without neglecting essential ethical and data protection aspects. This is exactly where we come in: With our expertise in change management, project management and IT consulting, we support organisations in implementing digitalisation in a practical and sustainable way. Our focus is on developing customised solutions that not only enable technological progress, but also put people at the centre - for a more efficient, sustainable social economy.

The maturity index for digitalisation in the social economy (RIDiS) developed by us is a central tool that supports your organisation on the path to digitalisation. RIDiS enables you to systematically analyse and prioritise fields of action and provides targeted recommendations for achieving the next level of maturity. This allows you to achieve maximum results within a tight, cost-saving timeframe.

Our offering includes M365 Governance, M365 Onboarding and other business applications that ensure your processes run smoothly. With our industry know-how and extensive expertise in the Microsoft 365 environment, we help you to take full advantage of these SaaS services, increase your productivity and meet compliance requirements at the same time.

You can find more information about M365 Collaboration hier.

We help you to identify and realise the potential of AI and robotics. In doing so, we take your specific requirements into account and develop customised solutions for you.

Our services include advice on the selection and implementation of AI and robotics solutions, their development and integration into your existing systems and the development of your employees' expertise.

You can find further information here.

We help you to identify and realise the potential of UI/UX and accessibility for your applications. We have developed msg.BALM (Barrierefreiheit, Accessibility, Lifecycle, Management) to initially test the current status of your accessibility. With msg.BALM, you can check and optimise the accessibility status of your application or parts of your application step by step. The test steps comply with European Standard 301 549 for accessible websites, documents, software and mobile applications. In addition to advising on the selection and realisation of state-of-the-art UI/UX and accessibility standards, we train your employees in the necessary know-how.

Further information can be found at here.

With our Security Advisory Service, we offer IT security consulting that is specially tailored to the needs of the social economy. Through the practice-oriented analysis of your security architecture, we identify optimisation potential and support you in creating a comprehensive security roadmap and precisely defining the necessary measures.
We also support you in carrying out data protection impact assessments in order to minimise the risks to your IT infrastructure. In this way, we enable you to make your IT infrastructure more secure step by step and fulfil compliance requirements at the same time.

Realisation of a barrier-free website

As part of the modernisation of the company's image, not only was the name changed from ‘Behindertenhilfe Wetterauskreis’ to ‘Teilhabe Wetterau’ - the website also needed to be updated accordingly.

Our team was commissioned to implement the new website. We implemented the technical requirements and the new design in collaboration with the brand agency DACHCOM - with a particular focus on accessibility in accordance with BITV conformity.

News from the Public Sector

Review

From 18 to 19 March 2025, more than 3,000 experts from administration, business and science came together in Berlin to discuss innovative solutions for the digitalization of administration under the motto “Digital administration goes on air”.

Interview

Digital twins create virtual representations of real systems - such as cities or industrial plants - in order to evaluate data in real time and carry out simulations. In the public sector, it is used to optimize urban processes, such as traffic planning or environmental monitoring, and thus improve the quality of life.

Consider the scenario of a panel discussion or a question-and-answer session featuring a group of experts in the relevant field. While these participants possess significant knowledge, they may also exhibit a degree of bias due to their established perspectives. Introducing an artificial intelligence (AI) as one of the participants could provide a refreshing dynamic.

Interview

Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) serves as key for optimizing of IT infrastructures through transparency, strategic planning and efficient communication.
