Diversity at msg

Stronger through lived diversity

For msg, diversity is both an opportunity and a social responsibility, which we meet with a clear attitude and concrete measures. Find out more here!

Our mission statement

At msg, we see diversity as an opportunity and potential for our company, but also as a social responsibility. That is why we are committed to promoting diversity at msg, preventing discrimination, respecting the personality of each individual employee and ensuring that they can develop within our company. Our corporate values form the foundation for this.

In the video, our colleagues tell you what diversity means to them.

“The mix of different views and perspectives leads to better decisions overall. That's why a balanced composition of positions in the company is not only an obligation, but above all a key to success.”

 - Franziska Herold, Head of Diversity Management

Diversity goals at msg

We consistently pursue the following diversity goals at msg, both internally and externally. Because we always focus on people and all their facets.

  • Establishing a corporate culture that perceives employees as individuals and not only respects and accepts all aspects of their personalities, but actively promotes them and welcomes their uniqueness.
  • Increasing visibility and sharing information about our diversity at msg, current projects to increase diversity and promote equal opportunities and equity.
  • Developing existing, as yet untapped potential at msg.
  • Attracting people with different backgrounds and personal characteristics to msg.

The "Diversity Charter" as a source of inspiration

msg is a co-signatory of the "Diversity Charter". As such, we are guided in our business activities by the contents of the charter.

Specific diversity measures at msg

Gender equality & LGBTIQ+

Several women's networks within the msg group offer the opportunity to meet regularly. The content of these meetings is, on the one hand, the active promotion of networking among our female employees and, on the other hand, stimulating keynote speeches that repeatedly encourage discussion of various topics related to the advancement of women in IT.

As part of msg's extensive training and continuing education  program, we offer female employees the workshop “Frauen@msg - Für mehr Erfolg im Business” (Women@msg - For More Success in Business). The workshop enables women who no longer want to wait to be discovered to systematically identify their individual strengths, make their performance visible and actively communicate their potential in order to achieve their professional goals more easily in the future.

Many of our employee benefits contribute directly to the area of gender equality. Flexible working hours and extensive opportunities for mobile work and home office already contribute significantly to a better work-life balance and give employees room to maneuver, for example, in care work.

On the annual Girls' Day, girls from the fifth grade onwards have the opportunity to get a taste of professions and industries that are still mostly dominated by men - including msg in the IT industry - on a future-oriented day. On this day, a varied program awaits the schoolgirls at many msg locations.

You can find more information about Girls' Day here

We, the msg group, always use a gender-neutral language style in our internal and external communication that addresses all genders equally and is therefore inclusive.
In practice, we use gender-neutral formulations such as participle forms, alternative, gender-neutral terms and dual designations.

At the annual Christopher Street Day parade in Munich, we stand together in the name of msg for a colorful and tolerant community and advocate for equality regardless of gender and sexual orientation.

Organizational aspects of lived diversity

The diversity community, which is open to the entire msg group and organized via internal communication channels, provides all employees with a platform for exchanging ideas about diversity at msg. Interested parties can network, inform themselves and discuss all aspects of diversity in order to make msg even more colorful.

The Code of Conduct is our code of behavior at msg. It offers us all clear orientation for our daily work by containing our msg values, as well as specific guidelines and rules of behavior for daily practice. It also contributes directly to versatile and open cooperation in the entire msg group and thus to a holistic, practiced concept of diversity.

Promoting inclusion and equal opportunities

At the end of 2021, committed employees joined forces for an inclusion project. Since then, the project has been working in close cooperation with the employer on measures that, on the one hand, increase the proportion of severely disabled people at msg and, on the other hand, lead to more contracts being awarded to companies in the second labor market (e.g. workshops for the disabled).

The project group works in the following fields of action:

  • Recruitment and hiring
  • Promotion and awareness raising
  • Awarding contracts
  • Accessibility – software
  • Accessibility – location and workplaces
  • Reports

msg BiN GmbH is an inclusion company within the msg group. Its goal is to test, advise on and train in digital accessibility, together with both disabled and non-disabled people.

msg BiN (barrier-free on the net) is itself an inclusive company, where people with and without disabilities work hand in hand. The testing of digital products is mainly carried out by people with disabilities, as they are best placed to know what demands life places on users and how to make applications accessible.

In 2022, msg began working with the Netzwerk Chancen, an organization that helps young people from financially disadvantaged and non-academic backgrounds to advance socially.
As part of the cooperation, experienced consultants support affected people in their career planning and provide insights into job profiles in the consulting industry through workshops and individual mentoring.
Personal contacts are essential for a successful start to professional life, especially for young people with limited access to education. The msg unit Public Sector took the initiative to start the cooperation with Netzwerk Chancen.

The Stiftung Pfennigparade e.V., together with its 14 subsidiaries, is one of the largest rehabilitation centers for physically disabled people in Germany.

The Pfennigparade workshops operate as service providers in areas such as IT. Since 2016, the Pfennigparade has been digitizing incoming invoices and expense reports for msg systems. Since 2020, the Pfennigparade has also been regularly checking a regulation of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) for the safety of electrical systems and equipment.

By working with the Pfennigparade, we are further expanding this commitment and thus supporting the participation of disabled people in social life.
