Goods flow forecast & market planning

Customer

The retailer operates more than 3,000 stores across Europe, each of which stocks a range of more than 50,000 items. It therefore operates one of the largest centrally controlled retail logistics networks in the world.

The challenge

The retailer's task is to ensure that the individual stores are optimally supplied with the right type and quantity of articles. This must always take into account regional specifics such as public holidays and the like. Manual intervention should be reduced as much as possible.

Solution

Development of a highly configurable software system that forecasts optimum order quantities per item and store. This forecast is the basis for further automated processes to determine final order quantities. In a third step, market planning ensures that orders are executed correctly and on time.

Customer benefits

  • Goods flow forecasts are planned automatically > 90% of the time
  • Intervention by store manager, department or marketing reduced to a minimum
  • Optimization of the ordering process by selecting the latest possible calculation and ordering time with the aim of reducing costs
  • Achieving a high level of customer satisfaction by providing the requested items, in the right quantity, at the right time
